re: Accused of not taking meds
Aug. 7th, 2008   3:19pm

We had this exact experience in recent months.  Our swcah daughter is 16.  Last October, labs were perfect, no med changes.  This March, 17 OHP was 3500.  Increased Cortef, 17 OHP continued to rise to 6000.  At that point, the new nurse practitioner we were seeing at the endo's office basically told us that she wasn't taking her meds as directed.  That ticked me off to put it very mildly because, like you, I was 100% sure she WAS taking them.  I would bet my life on the fact that she hasn't missed more than 5 doses her entire life!  Anyway, we switched to prednisone and it did take a couple of months and a dosage change from 5mg/day to 7.5 mg/day (5mg in am and 2.5 in pm) to get the levels down.  The end of June, her androstendione and testostereone were back to normal and 17 OHP was "miraculously" back in the 700's.

Don't worry about the accusations but check on a change to prednisone.  The twice a day dosing is much easier than three times a day anyway...  :>)

Good luck!

Monica
