I'm nearly 17 with swcah (girl).I don't want to be too negative as medication effects boys and girls differently. I was put on Pred at 12ish(not too sure exactly) and it had awful side effects: weight gain that caused awful stretch marks, acne, headaches and depression. Obviously i wasn't on the right dosage but i really hated that medication and would never go on it again. However as your son is 15 his hormones will have leveled out more so it should be easier to control his levels meaning his side effects should be minimal if the dosage is right.
Also if the doctor has said his bones have fused together then he has stopped growing as people can only continue growing if the bones aren't fused. Mine fused at 14 (5ft4) and i haven't grown at all in 3 years.
