re: Accused of not taking meds
Aug. 7th, 2008   1:35pm
This happened to me when I was around 13(can't remember exactly), I had changed from Hydro to Pred then to Dex and my levels were still so high my endo quite angrily accused me of not taking my medication. It was 100% obvious I was taking them with the terrible side effects i was experiencing: stretch marks, acne, excess weight and so on (which are common side effects on the wrong dosage on Dex) but he insisted it was my fault the Dex wasn't working.

I would opt for a different opinion as that is the reason for my happiness today. I changed endo until i was 15 and she increased my Dex too much (on purpose) to suppress my levels, then gradually decreased the dosage until I was within the normal range. Sadly she left the UK for NZ last year and I've returned to my previous endos who were actually shocked by the 'new' me. The endo was able to get the exact dose which has seen me go from 11st to 8st and nearly all my side effects vanish.

Also, as she has gone back onto Hydro i would say to look into the pump Kathy is suggesting as if my daughter's levels fluctuate it may be due to the medication leaving the body to quickly; having a time release injection could be the answer.

Just stick in there though, my early teen years were the worst; girls have so many hormones fluctuating without the help of SWCAH, it's no surprise that there's going to be some trouble trying to find the right dose to level them out.

I hope all goes well.

Chloe
