re: growth hormone deficiency
Aug. 5th, 2008   9:42pm
Both of my daughters took GH injections. Rachel took the injections for 2yrs and Quinn took them for about a year. My girls have LOCAH, but because they were over medicated causing oversuppression, their growth was stunted. Rachel is now 18yrs old and is 5"4' and Quinn is 16yrs old and she is still growing, currently she is 5"4' as well. Rachel was on the injections until her bones fused. Quinn was only on a year, but we went to NIH for a Study and Quinn's LOCAH is very mild and we decided to take her off all medications, including GH injections. She is doing great and still growing.
If you do go the GH injection route you will manage and do fine. We never allowed many sleep-overs so that wasn't much of an issue. If they did sleep at a close friend's house we would just give the injection before they left the house. A couple times they went on a church retreat and the camp nurse gave them their injections. My girls were on 2 different injections and one of them had to be refrigerated at all times. It was a pain and an additional thing to juggle, but its doable and eventually that part of your life ends. This too shall pass!!! Thats a phrase a dear friend reminds me of when I'm feeling overwhelmed.
