Hi,Unfortunately, being as busy as I am for the past two years I have rarely had the time to sit and read anything outside of my studies. Unless my study institute can obtain the book (would have to be easily obtainable as a reference to my lecturers also to check my research) I could not include it within any reference to my project. I'd have to check with the librarian about that. At the moment, with costs to my course (camera equipment and programs and equipment needed to develop my visual imaging) it is beyond my affordability to purchase such. As I am coming from a visual angle also, I am not really sure that reading a lot about CAH itself would actually assist me as my project has a need to come in from the visual angle with the odd body of text which is displayed when diagrams are waved over with the cursor. I am aware of all the intricacies of CAH, the medical treatment and have done a stack of research over the years enough to go by in itself.
As such, even if the book itself has images, these are copyright and it would not be my own work as such if I used such images. The purpose of my assignment (thesis) is to develop a visual solution to a problem or product. This has to come very clearly from my own words, my own visual concepts and ideas. In other words, if it comes to human anatomy and diagrams, it starts with drawings, they are scanned and used as guides for vector illustration etc.
It is a 14 week project so obviously being so limited, my job is to narrow it down to a certain aspect of CAH (i.e. to pitch it to a child obviously there would have to be some element of the whole package that is designed with children in mind) with a view to eventually adding to such and making it a much larger project.
My study has taken me off into the direction or portraiture, wedding photography and fashion photography as this is what I have found I enjoy the most and love doing, but at the same time as my visual skills are also wrapped within graphic design also, and I have an interest in CAH itself, my ideas as such need to wrap with someone who is just as up with the play who can feed back into the work and state this or that is suitable. I had had thoughts of contacting a body such as the Magic Foundation and going from there as it seems to me they provide training aids and educational aids of that type?
Obviously also with CAH there are many controversial issues and topics that I would want to steer clear of if I pitch such a project to children. Possibly at some other time when I have completed my degree there is the chance of expanding on what I have done, as when it is to be pitched to an adult (parent) the whole ball game changes.
The other aspect I still need to look into is copyright and protection of my work, as being so rare, CAH as one condition in itself as one interractive PDF (on CD) is such that pdf are easily distributed - so I kind of know that anything of this nature has to be approached with the attitude, "Hey, I will never become rich or famous or rich doing this, but I feel it is warranted and needed." Precisely why such things never get done by those with the skills to do such - it all boils down to viability financially at the end of the day.
But then spending time on such a project is really no different to creating a web site dedicated to such in a non-profit sense. I do like to keep my hand in something that is clearly non profit as my contribution back to community.
I am probably heading towards pitching it to children given time constraints really. Pitching it to a wider audience will involve a heavier project and although this is my core paper, the other three papers take up a considerable amount of time.
