re: Extremely High Potassium Levels in 7 Week-old Baby Girl
Jul. 24th, 2008   6:16pm

Hi! First I wish your sister & nice the best! God will be by her side and will not let anything bad to happen.  I have a son who was diagnosed at 2 weeks of age. Same as your nice, he had to be rushed to the hospital and they run blood work after blood work to diagnose him. His potassium levels were I believe at 11.  He was admitted to the NICU and he as well was on high dosages of Floudrocortisone, Hydrocortisone and sodium chloride.  He was there for about two weeks but they have to run those entire test and blood work to find out if the medication and dosage that she is getting is the right for her.  I know it seems like if they are not doing anything because I felt the same way, since my son was our first baby.  That wasn't supposed to happen but it did and now he is a happy 3 yr old.  Your sister needs to be strong and ask as many questions as she can ask.  Also make sure that when they run blood work on the baby tell the nurses to hurry with the blood because sometimes it tends to himalize and they will have to re-do the test again.  Once they find what's the right dosage for you're nice they will be able to stabilize her :)

Marilyn
