Hi Peaches,
Great post and I will add that what was done was not mistreatment but just what was done and medicine builds from that.
I was what would be considered over treated and I still feel this way about gender. The ped endo years later - a male .....burst into tears after BLOWING intellectual smoke in my face finally was truthful in telling me that I was one of the ones that never should of been changed.
I will write more in -depth because of the way you wrote and maybe the way I wrote could of been clearer. Even I think that time will tell with your kid but things will also be OK either way. I find if I have balance in things that it somewhat helps thus the why not stronge male and females to look up to? Anyway, I thought you might get a kick out of this Superheroines link : ) Fury was very cool - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List.of_Superheroines and in the real world? what about women soccer players? I don't relate to women ... and feel separate - I can remember feeling this way since the first grade. Gender wise I drift from one pole - to another and tomboys scared me. I liked shop class and home ec.
What I wrote isn't going to be your kid but I wrote becuase I like how it seems to me that you are trying to think about all this and you seem interested on a different level than most.
Your post got me because your kid wrote that it's frustrating being a girl and I've said the same thing in so many ways. I never wanted to be a guy either but just wanted to be me.
I do think that you are looking out for your kid : ) too.
I just wanted to write in the hope that something might help you.
I will post again
