My daughter used to get them.  I guess they started when she was about 15.  We never could determine what caused them for her except stress.  Her neurologist tried several different "preventative" drugs until he put her on Topomax and she took that for a few years.  She also carried Zomig with her in case one started.  If she got one, even though she was on Topomax, she would take a Zomig.  I think you can only take 2 a day, so he told her to alternate it with Excedrine migraine.  The combination would help her tremdously if she got a migraine.  They used to come several times a week and now she has only had 2 or 3 in the last 6 months.  I don't know if there is any link to the SWCAH, but I would bet there is.
