re: Need info. about labs that are good w/kids around L.A.
Jul. 10th, 2008   11:37pm
I don't have any info. on labs in LA but I wanted to share that you're certainly not alone!! When my daughter was born and needed to be retested to be sure she actually had CAH, they sent us back to the hospital where she was born--logical thinking, no? We sat and waited for hours and hours before they even took us back to the lab, then repeatedly stuck her in the arm, leg and who knows where else--I couldn't be in the room. They decided they didn't have needles small enough for a newborn so they sent us away. We then went up to the actual birthing ward, we figured the NICU was there so surely they would have needles small enough......they told us they would take care of it, then after waiting more hours they told us they had changed their mind and wouldn't help us after all. they sent us across the hospital to the pediatric ward who they assured us would have needles small enough. By this time, we'd been at the hospital for about 5-6 hours and the pediatric ward initially didn't want to help us because she wasn't a patient there. After my husband threw a fit, they decided to do the heel stick on her and "hope" they could get enough blood.

From that day on, we've only gone to Children's Hospital here in Pittsburgh. They've always been able to do what they needed to do, with equipment small enough etc etc.

Good luck and sorry for the long ramble :-)

Rebecca
