I am also a SWCAH. I do not have an irregular heartbeat but I do have hypertension (high blood pressure). I take 2.5 of lisinopril daily in addition to 0.05mg florinef. Everytime I am told to increase my florinef, my blood pressure goes up and I feel terrible. Going up on the BP meds the next time they increase the florinef is my nest step.
The irregular heart beat could have numerous causes. They could just be extra beats and your daughter is having lots of them or your daughter could have a heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation. This is sometimes seen after open heart surgery or in patients with long standing history of poorly controlled BP's or "stuff" happens. She could also just have periods of irregular heartbeats and her body can go into and out of the rhythm by itself. She may/may not be aware she is even doing it. She needs to see a cardiologist to have this checked. During the EMT training, see if the students could run a EKG strip on her to take with her to the doctor appt. That way it is documented and he at least could see what her rhythm is at the time that it "sounds funny"
By the way, in my old job, I worked as an RN in a trasitional care Open Heart/cardiac unit.
