I'm sorry that you had to deal with the insensitivy of this person. I think with their own frustation about what they see in the medical field that sometimes they lose sight of the human side of patients and families. I also feel that sometimes that when they are comfortable with you that they say things they normally wouldn't.
I was a job coach for people with physical and mental challenges. They were they best workers and were sought out by employers.
I looked at a fragile X web site and I learned about this condition : ) Even though this lady is a medical doctor - smart book wise ...You Hope were blessed stronger in this Department to care take children that have needs more than some others.
