Prayers for my 13-yo CAH daughter
May. 16th, 2008   5:41am

Hi, All -

I know I can come here for your help, support, and prayers.

Christina (13yo CAH) was hit in the face with a soccer ball yesterday during break at school.  She took a solid hit and now has a damaged retina in her right eye.  Her vision from that eye is:  blurry and black spots when she tries to look left, solid black when she tries to look right.

The retina specialist has determined that this is caused by a swollen retina.  While there is no tear or detachment, swelling is the one thing that they cannot help.  Only time will tell if her vision will return to normal.  His assessment indicated she has limited peripheral vision and no central vision.  The retina, apparently, does not tolerate swelling very well.  We just need to wait and see the condition of the retina after the swelling subsides.  She is also scheduled for an MRI for something called a 'blow-out fracture'--which is some kind of bony damage caused by blunt force resulting in intense pressure around the orbital.

I am humbly asking for your prayers that all will be well with her MRI and that her retina will return to its original shape and her vision will be normal again.  We have a follow-up in 3 weeks with the retina specialist.

We had a tragedy in our family in Sept, 2006...my sister's husband and one of their 6 children drowned just off shore in Ocean City, MD.  (www.murphyfamily.org ) , so I feel like I've sort of dropped out of regular life for a while.  My sister lives only 20 minutes away...and it feels like I wasn't home for 6 months and I suddenly had  5 other daughters.  It's taken me this long to even tell you guys...I wanted to post so many times...but it was too heartbreaking.  Christina was so close to Amy.

BUT...Three days after we buried Doug and Amy, Christina torn the ACL in her right knee during a soccer game.  I actually had 3 of my sister's kids with me at that game.  She required surgery and was out of physical activity for 1.5 yrs.  Now, she had just joined an indoor soccer team last month and was excited about playing again.    She is devastated that she is now back on physical restriction...especially from playing soccer.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers and thoughts.
