re: re: Stress dosing for small operation Oct. 13th, 2006 9:35pm
Kristin is having arthroscopic surgery on her knee on Thursday. We have to be at the hospital at 6:30 am. I have to give her a 50mg shot of Solu-Cortef before we leave the house and then the anesthesiologist (sp?) will give her another 50 in her IV. Providing there is no vomitting after surgery (from the anesthesia) she will come home and resume her normal dose. If she has severe pain at home I will stress dose for a day or so. Kristin is 18 and has had arthroscopic surgery once before and her tonsils/adenoids removed and we have handled all surgeries the same. The surgery is definitely a stress on her body, but so is the general anesthesia.
