Hi!! My oldest, LOCAH child is 17yrs old and has really struggled with anxiety for many, many years. She was overtreated with Cortef & Florinef for many of those years. Not that the overtreatment was the cause of the anxiety. However, when she turned 15yr and was a freshman in high school, in a matter of a couple months everything came crushing down on her. She started her period which resulted in HORRIBLY painful, bursting cysts (PCOS), 30lb weight gain and awful anxiety. Her endo just kept increasing her Cortef to 30mg and increasing her Florinef.
We taught our daughter many stress reducing techniques, sought counseling, etc., however, for her; the anxiety seemed so strong that she was unable to use the emotional tools taught to her. We eventually put her on Zoloft which has done a world of good. She has thanked us over the years because she feels so "normal".
Thanks to CARES I learned so much about the additional problems of LOCAH. Also thanks to NIH because our daughter is currently off all steriods, but is on Zoloft and Yasmine for her PCOS and is doing very well.
I only share my story with you for information not to infer that your daughter is overtreated. I'm 46yrs old, was just diagnosed with LOCAH and suffer with tons of anxiety!! I certainly was not overtreated!! I think anxiety just comes with the territory for many. In fact, my daughter is learning all about the endocrine system and how it affects emotions in her psychology class. She finds it all extremely interesting!!!
