re: re: my 16 year old daughter has locah Oct. 7th, 2006 5:14pm
hi, thanks so much for writing back. My daughter has been on prednisone for 4 years, up until 6 months ago she was taking 2.5 mgs twice a day, then they upped her to 2.5 mgs once a day, and 5 mgs at night. She has alot of period problems. She first got her period at the beggining of when she turned 9. It has always been very light, and these days it has also been very dysfunctional. She has alot of facial hair, and hair on her back which she hates too. I have PCOS, and so does my sister. As far as i know I don't have LOCAH, but I was never tested for it. I'm now 47, so there's probably not much use. What is this other med. called dexamethazone, what does it do that is different from prednisone? My daughter tried cortef, but was allergic to it, she broke out in hives, which the doctor thought was strange. She is very concerned about extra hair, and doesn't know what to do. It's really hard being our daughters age, and knowing that you are different from others somehow. Till recently she didn't understand much about it, and for that matter neither did I , but we are now both trying to understand it, and the consequences of having LOCAH. She has a doc. appt again for her Endo. on Oct. 18th. Her 17 hydroxy prog. was very elevated 6 months ago, that's why she upped her meds. You mentioned you also have it, when were you diagnosed, and how did it affect your ability to concieve? My daughter is very concerned about that right now. She is afraid that nobody will ever want to marry her. I told her that is of course not true, but she needs some assurance that people with LOCAH can get pregnant. Thanks so much for the info, and anything else you can tell me will be greatly appreciated. Our daughters might also like to write to each other at some point. thanks again.
