re: cosmetic surgery is 100% right, Mar. 9th, 2008 11:53pm
I have not read all of the replies, do forgive me if I repeat something that has already been said. I am 20 years old. I had three surgeries. The first was done before my first birthday, the second at age four and the last at age 14. Even after all of my surgeries I do not look "correct" but I still think I look beautiful. My parents and endocrinologist were great in telling me to embrace my individuality. I like to think I have a very positive body image. When I became sexually active the only things my boyfriend noticed were my bigger than average clitoris (which we both enjoy :)) and my tightness. The tightness was a bother but I am happy to say all is running smoothly now. In my case surgery did not make me look like everyone else but it did a good job of blending me into the crowd. I do not remember my first two surgeries. My last surgery was in no way a traumatic experience. My endo, gyno and parents answered every question I had. I will say seeing a gynecologist at age 14 was a bit awkward but my mother was with me the whole time and my doctors were very understanding. I do not know what life would have been like without the surgery but I do know that with the surgery my life is pretty great. I realize that every person and family is different but I would consider how important it is for people to "fit in."
