I was trying to explain this to a surgeon and it goes along the same lines that I think you want for your kid but the surgeon wasn't interested in my views in that by allowing your daughter/someone born like me some say in the situation she isn't going to feel so manipulated by the whole situation. They use shame to make sure the silent majority stays that way. YOU didn't want to well look that way IT would of grown errr so what? but ...WE are the experts YOU are the only one feeling like this err is this a problem? and hey i do know others too! gosh darn ok ummm we were talking about my body here anyway that wasn't in pain or upset but ummm you know what is best for it.
It seems from the article you were in that you daughter with respect to the others that make the choices for theirs has the best of both worlds meaning she had the medical surgery that needed to be done but also still has control over the say about if or when other surgery. You didn't force her into something that she may or may not be able to deliver the goods on and it seems you have respect for her on this instead of wishing for something cookie cutter. Her real feelings matter to you. This is just my take on it and I'm not an expert.
