Do you think the estrogen that someone w/ CAH has might become unchallenged because of the suppression of testosterone/androgens by our cortisones? My thinking came from that anyone without CAH has their testosterone suppressed naturally by their bodies own cortisol but for whatever reasons their bodies become unbalanced and estrogen gets the upper hand and other diseases happen. I was thinking that the blue print of my body would be "wired" for having more testosterone in the first place because the adrenal gland didn't make all of the cortisol and then along comes medical technology to help me survive serious illness and to get the genotype to match the phenotype but all the way having that suppression causes other parts of the body to go haywire like endometrial hyperplasia. If this is all way out in left field tell me : ) it's cool. I'm not a scientific person but I do like to understand the flow of things like the body, family structure, cars, or even the flow of a business. I've always had good levels of the 17 hydroxylase progesterone but would good levels of that make the estrogen sooner or later go crazy on the other end. I do talk w/ people that have CAH who have crazy periods. It's either light no periods or heavy and prolonged and I wonder are we more prone to estrogen inbalance which may lead quickly from oh you have a hormone problem to CANCER : p or having that hormone that makes other cancer harder OK impossible to detect : ) untill it grows big enough.
I was wondering all this and I asked my Endo who is terrific ( Can you imagine being my Endo? Lots of patience required there lol ) but he wasn't sure and never heard of anything like that but he didn't disregard it either. I thought it would be fun to ask you also because of your lab work in reproductive endocrinology.
I've read about no oxgen in the body and an acidic environment leads to cancer. If you know anything about that it would be great if you could share ; ) Something else that I've always wondered about : ) Do think that the amount of cortisone that we take lowers or immunity over time? which might make it easier to catch colds etc. Again it does make us more inclined for osteoprosis and that's where my curiosity can from.
