re: re: so what does this "intersex" mean? Feb. 13th, 2005 12:03pm
First of all, about the picture above. I know a few untreated non-classic females that could pass for this persons sibling! That is exactly what happens to many without treatment. They have to shave 2 times a day, have hair on their butts and stomachs. I happen to ne one of the lucky ones, I guess. I didn't have as much hair (but I was hairy) or look that masculine(but I have my strong traits), but I had an enlarged clitoris. I had surgery at the age of 25. So anyway, no one can tell me that this won't happen to a woman with cah untreated. It is very strange how we are all affected differently.
As far as females with cah being inter-sexed, I guess they can tell you themselves whether they feel if they are inter-sexed when the time is right. If they are not ashamed of how they feel. Instead of people that do not have cah deciding it for them. I personally never had a doctor say to me that cah was as inter-sexed condition, but then again they seem to not tell us much anyway. I can tell you this much, many of us feel confusion and shame. I suppose I am speaking on behalf of the many classic and non-classic females that I correspond with.
So what do people talk about when the condition is considered inter-sex? What do they say to each other to lend support and acceptance. I'm sure it is not denial. Oh no you are not inter-sexed, it's just a hormone imbalance. I think that we would actually benefit with some positive insight on acceptance.
Call it what you like, I don't think it matters. I know parents don't want their child to be considered a he-she. Because it would be embarrassing right? Yeah, thats a boost of support right there. But honestly what do you think people say when they find out that a female child or adults has or had something that resembled a penis? My friend's mother told a friend about her daughter. She went through school being called a he she, a hermy, you name it. This world is an ugly place.
