higher up the prader scale one is able to void through the clitoris w/ the labia being fused. Someone born a prader five externally looks no different than a male only without the testes. Prader five is rare in CAH but that's why you will read that and that's why some of us girls are really mistaken for boys and sent home until they get sick from lack of cortisol or the newborn screening comes back or without medical advancement we would of been like that person in the picture that Nunya? posted in the prior thread down some here. Ambiguous genitals and girls born to the extreme of prader five aren't typical of everyone with CAH - not the males and not all the girls. I was lucky to see what I was born with since my surgery was at five and I remember it being the size of my pinky like a deflated ballon that I voided through. All of this back tracks to a dysfunctional adrenal gland and metabolic deficiency. I'm glad my parents and doctors tried something. It wasn't perfect but it was the best that they had back then. Something had to be done sooner or later and what wasI supposedto have my period go through what I was born with? No thank you and sometimes I look at what was done as a butcher job but other times I think it was a pretty darn good job for 1975.
Martha, I'm glad that you like the word pseudo- hermaphrodite too. I find it much more specific in what's really going on. It descibes what that area looked like and nothing more. Nurses always perplex me when they say "You don't have the characteristics of that." I like ummm ok thanks?
