re: To Martha

Yikes, Besty gave my secret up! I *do* have a little girl with SWCAH. My example of a little boy was meant to be an example why I don't like CAH labeleled as an intersex *condition*- not that we shouldn't reassure your little girl about who and what they are. I was trying to give an example of why so many parents get upset about the term intersex, not trying to upset parents of little girls that CAH.

Yes, my girl was born with a penis. Yes, when she gets older I will explain the more complex aspects of her condition and reassure her about who and what she is. But the fact still stands, her external phenotype did not match up with her genotype. I guess I was trying to find a better definition for intersex (what can I say, I'm a stickler for definitions and terms being used correctly) It seems to be such a broad term and used for a variety of things that perhaps it shouldn't be meant for.

So fellow board members, I put this question to you, how do *you* define intersex? I am very interested in other people's thoughts on the subject. I think it could lead to some lively debate if we can avoid the flaming!
