New vs. old techniques of surgery
Feb. 10th, 2005   10:25pm
Can anyone tell me the difference between new and old surgical techniques for genital surgery?  From the adults who post here, we know the problems that can occur when outmoded methods of surgery are used.  But, presumably, medicine has moved ahead in the last ten/twenty/thirty years.  Can anyone be a bit more specific as to exactly how things have changed? E.g. do doctors use different equipment (laser?).  Do they make different types of incisions (e.g. as with C-sections, where they now always cut parallel to the muscle vs. perpendicular to it.)  Etc., etc.

I realize that long-term results for some of these new procedures may not yet be available, but for now, I would just like to be able to understand the technological advancements that have been made in the last couple of decades or so, and how they are expected to improve outcome.

Thank you.
Eve
