Hi Lorraine

As dexamethasone is the most potent glucocorticoid it is more difficult to fine tune the dose required and it sounds as if your daughter may have been on a little too much dex for a while, due to the symptoms she is suffering from.  Prednisolone is less potent so may suit her better, especially if they can prescribe a slightly lower overall equivalent dose.

Is her consultant looking at other meds that might help too?  Metformin for instance is often used in CAH for those with weight problems but there are others and getting the balance right between the different meds for individual patients is a job for the experts!  As you rightly say, there are differing opinions between specialists, which is why it is important to be under the care of an endocrinologist who has a particular interest in CAH and has a lot of experience in the condition.

Sue
