Thanks Mary, that is really very helpful!   Thanks also to Dona and Rosalie for your advice.  In the UK, tablets do come in glass bottles containing 56 tablets but as Mary states, pharmacists will often take them out of these bottles and place them in  plastic containers instead with a 'child proof' lid, so you don't actually get the information leaflet, let alone the expiry date notice!   Generally we are only given a month's medication at a time though - another government regulation to stop waste through over prescribing. 

Unfortunately I missed the return call from Squibbs today but will try and catch up with them tomorrow and will post further information then.  Thanks again for all the help and advice.
