What we were told....
Nov. 15th, 2007   5:29am

......by the manufacters in Australia last year when Florinef changed its protocol was exactly what Sue said. The changes were in order to extend the shelf life from eighteen months to two years.

However as most of us find, we use the whole bottle well before twelve/eighteen months are up, so long as the use-by-date on the label when we first purchase it is beyond the length of time that it takes us to use the whole bottle. Occasionally stock sits on the pharmacy shelf too long before being sold and if the use-by-date is getting precariously close, then I'd return it anyway.

In Australia there are 100 Florinef tablets in the bottle, even if you are on half a tablet per day you would use them in 200 days - well before the twelve months is up. A problem would only occur if you were on a quarter tab of Florinef per day or intermittent prn doses, then it would be beneficial to refrigerate in order to avoid wastage.

Don't know how many Florinef tabs are supplied in UK with each bottle but if it is 100 then you don't have too much to worry about. If you want to refrigerate it then refrigerate it.....that is of course, unless you find out that there has been a fundamental formulation change then that is a different issue altogether - in which case it may be essential to refrigerate.

I'm sure Sue will get back to you to clarify that.

Rosalie
