re: blood tests
Dec. 7th, 2005   7:59pm

Hi Karen,

The frequency of tests seems to vary a bit around Australia.  To my knowledge though in NSW & VIC they will test and review children every 3 months until they are through Adolescence.  The main reason for that is because doses often need to be changed within a 3 month period and by having such frequent check ups this avoids going for too long with low blood pressure or high blood pressure.  Also, incorrect dosing can alter their final height so regular check ups can minimise this error also.

As for the 'tom boy' tendency.  It is well documented that alot of CAH girls will often lean toward more boy type activities.  They often enjoy contact sport, lego and other similar interests.  This can be considered a bit of a bonus as some adult CAH women find they can relate and work well with males.

If you want to know what the testing norm. is in your state just contact me and I'll try to put you in touch with a family in your area. lindapowell@optusnet.com.au

Regards

Linda
