re: Pregnancy
May. 2nd, 2005   2:31pm

My husband and I are in the process of trying to get pregnant again.  We first went to a genetic counselor on the request of my obstetrician.  The genetic counselor then ran a test on all three of us (me, my husband, and our son) in order to locate the faulty genes so that they were more easily detectible during the amnio on the new baby later.  She also told us that I would be placed on Dexamethasone at the beginning of my new pregnancy and would take it until we have an amnio to determine the sex of the baby and the gender.  If the baby is a boy, we would immediately stop the dex.  If it is a girl, we wait until we know if she if affected.  If she is not affected, we stop the dex.  If she is affected, we continue the dex until the baby is born.  The dex is supposed to stop any kind of virilization of the genitalia that might have occurred.  Hope this helps.
